2006

Anne’s Comments

Born of a contrasted climat, this vintage is very balanced and harmonious.

After a cold, long and snowy winter, we lived a particularly hot beginning of summer. That augured an early vintage. But August turned out to be cool and rainy that worried me about our end of treatments and plowing before end of July.

September was magnificent, hot, dry and sunny, stopping the development of rot ready to explode. I was very attentive to the situation until September 20, when we started to pick.

The sugar rates were higher than expected, specially in regional appellation. The healthy grapes and the warm weather lead us to choose a quick fermentation and light extraction.

Our two white wines are opulent, fresh and fruity and the reds are round, full and silky. A charming and elegant vintage which shows itself very refined after 2005 vintage so tense.

Chambolle Musigny la Combe d’Orveau 2006 : medium red. Pure aromas of strawberry, rarsberry and flowers. Juicy, spicy, bright and on the lean side, with a hint of citrus zest providing energy. Not yet complex but lively and persistent. 88

Vosne Romanée les Barreaux 2006 : Bright, satured red-ruby, high-pitched of black cherry, raspberry, flowers and minerals. Juicy, pure and vibrant, with fruit-driven flavors and more obvious minerality than the Chambolle. Fine-grained and long on the finish, conveying an impression of energy. Very much a wine from calcaire. 89

Clos Vougeot le Grand Maupertui 2006 : Bright red-ruby. Véry freshpure aromas of black cherry, licorice, menthol and minerals. Thentightly coiled but surprising sweet on the palate, with captivating flavors of cassis, black cherry, minerals and sexy gingery spices; much more black fruit than red. This very suave, tangy wine spreads out to saturate the palate on the back end, finishing with great class and precision. Lay this one down. 93

Richebourg 2006 : Deep red, a bit less saturated than the Clos Vougeot. Sappy dark fruits, flowers and spices on the nose, complemented by an exotic suggestion of white peach. Suave and supple, seemingly more open-knit and easier to taste today than the Clos Vougeot, with exotic floral lift addind to its early appeal. As sappyas this is, it’s also quite sweet and pliant today. Broader than its stablemate but it is as fine.  94

Clos Vougeot 2006 : medium to medium-full colour. the nose is a bit earthy, but the wine has good volume and richness. Goodd concentration and depth with a touch of mocha. Rather more attractive on the palate than on the nose. Good grip. Good energy. Long. Fine.

Richebourg 2006 : medium to medium-full colour.Rich, full, vibrant nose. Rather firmer and more positive than the Clos Vougeot. Fullish body. Very concentrated. Very classy indeed. Splendid Fruit. Real vigour. Delicious.
