| The year got off to a mild start, and the Spring showers did not cause too much disruption during the cultivation stage. We finished cutting on time and the buds burst fairly early, leaving us rather confused about the risk of Spring frosts. April and May nevertheless passed without a hitch. The plants began to flower on around June 10th and continued to do so in unstable weather conditions until around June 20th. As a result, we were expecting some millerandage… in the end, we had a bit of everything, pretty bunches with small seeds… and larger more impressive ones… In readiness for a future "royat" cut, some plots were thinned out very carefully, reducing the quantity to be harvested. The low levels of rainfall meant that the mildew pressure was not very strong. Powdery mildew was controlled by sulphur treatments administered wisely during the hot spells. No insecticides were used… In short, we had a healthy vineyard and perfect bunches of grapes until the end of August. A dream come true… The rainfalls in early September and the cold conditions put a stop to the maturing process. And with a twist of fate, a North-easterly wind started blowing on around September 10th, drying out the heart of the botrytis and concentrating the sugar and acid… What a miracle… the grape harvests began on September 20th and lasted until 1st October, when the white grapes were picked. The thick skins of the red grapes and the low juice yield gave us some good tannins and some lovely clear deep tones. We were right not to interfere… we have nature alone to thank for such a noble vintage. We are very pleased with our white wine, which matured extremely well thanks to the strong winds. A pure, slick wine with a direct freshness about it and whose fruit content is very apparent… the prospect of pure pleasure… |
